WEN WU 吴雯
Wen Wu is a celebrated Chinese artist based in London, whose portraits resonate with emotional depth and poetic grace. Born in Qingdao in 1978, she studied at Tsinghua University under the renowned Chen Dan Qing, one of China’s most influential art educators. She later completed an MA in Fine Art at London Metropolitan University. Wu has forged a distinct path, grounded in a refined, neo-realist style that bridges East and West. Inspired by 19th-century French plein air romanticism, literature, the English Pre-Raphaelites, and the School of Paris, her work is rich with shadow, color, and nuance. Though deeply figurative, her paintings possess an almost sacred abstraction. A devoted bibliophile, she draws from literature—curating titles from Nabokov to Sade—infusing her work with narrative and symbolism. Her art has been exhibited in leading museums across London, Beijing, Seoul, and Taipei, including the National Portrait Gallery and the Saatchi Gallery. Awarded the prestigious Portrait Award, Wen Wu’s work invites quiet reflection—where beauty, intellect, and emotion meet.
